The imperial city of Meknes
Meknes is one of the amazing Imperial cities of Morocco, located in northern central Morocco , it was founded in 11th century, and became a capital under the reign of Moulay Ismaïl (1672–1727).
The historic city of Meknes is one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, taking a place on the list for its distinguishing blend of architectural styles, amazing monuments as well as well-preserved heritage.
The city is surrounded by great historic walls, with 9 gates which provide entry to the city, each intricately ornamented with tile work and arabesque patterns.
The town itself is filled with beauty, from the regal Dar El Makhzen palace, to the many mosques and beautiful gardens which decorate the streets, andalosian Islamic styles vying for attention with European and Islamic inspired architecture.
